Agriturismo La Scaglia
Description
The Morani Company was founded in the only building complex in the area, the ancient Santa Severa Castle.
The Holy Spirit Institute leased the estate and the castle, within which all the company's activities took place: stables, granaries, and living quarters were housed in the medieval village, which even housed a school for the workers' children. Agricultural activities were carried out on the surrounding land, whose vast size is a remnant of the ancient large estates.
Thanks to significant financial investments, the company acquired modern machinery and livestock, while the land remains leased today.
In the 1950s, land reform reduced the company's surface area to the current 1,200 hectares, and the renovation of the castle village in the 1970s moved the company's headquarters to Casale della Scaglia, where it remains today.
The lands remaining after the land reform consisted mostly of scrubland and marginal, often very steep pastures; Due to the unique morphology of the area, the company chose to raise Maremma cattle as its primary production focus.
Today, the Morani company is a Slow Food Presidium and a Guardian of Biodiversity, for its commitment to protecting the environment and ecosystems.
